This period has seen several significant hail events, impacting various communities and potentially compromising many roofs.

Below is a summary of notable hail events, including the dates and the areas most affected. If your property is in or near one of these locations, a professional roof inspection is highly recommended.

February 2025 (late)

  • While February is less common for widespread severe hail, a system on February 26, 2025, did produce isolated hail events in other states, demonstrating the start of the convective season. Colorado saw minor impacts, primarily in the eastern plains if any, but nothing widespread was reported at sizes large enough to cause significant roofing damage at this time.

The Importance of a Post-Hail Inspection

As you can see, various parts of Colorado have been subjected to hail of different sizes over the past three months. It’s crucial to remember that any hail, regardless of its size, has the potential to cause damage to your roof. Even small hail can:

  • Dislodge protective granules from asphalt shingles, exposing the underlying mat to UV rays and accelerating aging.
  • Create “bruises” or soft spots that weaken the shingle and make it prone to future cracking and leaks.
  • Compromise the integrity of other roofing materials like metal or tile.

Often, hail damage isn’t immediately obvious from the ground. It can be subtle, leading to leaks months or even years down the line if left unaddressed. That’s why a professional inspection by experienced roofing specialists is vital.
