The harsh temperatures, high winds, ice, and snow can be tough on your roof during the cold season. You never know when those winter storms will hit Northern Colorado, but taking some simple preventative measures can save you a lot of time, money, and heartache down the road!
At Crazy Horse Roofing, we want your family to be taken care of inside of your home during all of your holiday celebrations.
Keep your house warm and dry by doing these 3 things to take care of your roof this winter.
Keep Your Gutters Clean
Your gutters are there to help direct water away from your house, but wind blows a lot of dust, leaves, and other debris around that can very easily clog them up. When your gutters aren’t draining properly, that water hangs around and you are more likely to get ice dams, which can cause leaks in your house and damage your draining system. Take the time to get your gutters cleaned before winter storms hit to keep your house safe and dry. This is a great thing to do while you are already up on a ladder putting up Christmas lights!
Keep Your Roof Clean
One of the biggest causes of roof leaks and damage is simply having debris resting up there for too long. Make sure to trim any branches that may be hanging over your roof to save you a lot of work from having to clean up those extra dead leaves, twigs, and other debris that is continuously dropped. Check regularly for any missing or damaged shingles or sagging areas of your roof. It doesn’t take long to just do a quick scan of your roof to make sure it’s clear of things that don’t need to be up there.
Keep Your Attic Well-Insulated
When you keep your attic insulated, you can prevent those winter leaks that are caused by snow melting when too much heat escapes through the roof of your home. As a side bonus, making sure your attic is well-insulated also saves you money on your heating bill!
Your roof is an essential part of your home that you want to be well-protected, especially against the winter elements. Take the extra time to make sure your roof and gutters are clean and your attic is well-insulated. Your roof (and your wallet) will thank you!
